West German Genome Center
In 2018 the DFG funded the "West German Genome Center" (WGGC) as one in four new High-Throughput Sequencing Competence Centres. The WGGC is a cooperation headed by the University of Cologne with the University of Bonn and the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. The first funding period for the WGGC includes 5.3 Million until 2021. The DFG has extended the continuation of the project until the end of 2023, providing further opportunities to apply for sequencing costs in projects. Within the WGGC the GTL functions as the production site in Düsseldorf specializing in Long-read NGS technology. For this purpose, a Sequel I and II system from Pacific Biosciences and platforms from Oxford Nanopore Technologies namely a GridION Mk1 and a PromethION 24 are available at the GTL, in addition to NGS short read platforms from Illumina. Optical mapping analysis can be performed on a Saphyr system from Bionano Genomics and a Chromium from 10x Genomics is available for single cell analyses.
Experts and members from all partner sites of the WGGC and also the other NGS Competence Centers have constituted Special Interest Groups (SIGs), small working groups focusing on topics relevant for operational and strategic decisions by the NGS Competence Network management.
Further information about the West German Genome Center and its SIGs can be found on the leaflet and the WGGC homepage. The terms of use of the WGGC production site Düsseldorf can also be downloaded via the link below.
